Postmodern folk with a tinge of Americana. If you want to reduce it to an easily digestible phrase, that's what you might call the music of Kelly Flint. As the sultry voice for the trenchant songs of David Cantor in New York City-based cult faves Dave's True Story, Kelly made five albums and was the toast of The New York Times, the Kennedy Center, and more.
But now it's time for her to spread her solo wings, or more appropriately, to Drive All Night. Click for more

MIDWEST RECORD RECAP – CHICAGO, IL – MARCH 6, 2007 KELLY FLINT/Drive All Night: Dave's True Story had to be the ultimate New York insider hipster band of this era. They might not have been that well known outside the Apple, even with the power of the Net, but in the Apple, hoo boy they were the toast of the town. Vocalist Flint was the band's point of entry for the fans and once they came in contact with her, they were under her spell. Dave's True Story had a jazzy side, now that Flint is on her own, she's reverted to her Midwest folkie roots. Not quite an Americana album, she just turns that page and takes Dave's True Story where it would go if she was the only hand on the wheel. Still a hipster, still a darling of the insider, now that she has widened the lens, perhaps there will be more insiders digging what she can do with a song and how much of a classic femme fatale she is without the obvious chanteuse or cabaret trappings. A killer set that marks an overdue, auspicious solo debut sure to keep you reaching for this when you need something that hits a homer for you. (BePop)
